The Crowe's Nest

Our Story

The Crowe’s Nest encompasses a charming and historic 1890’s villa, as well as a new-build cottage that was added to the Bombay property in early 2018.

In a former life, the villa played home to the Presbyterian Church Manse in Selwyn Road, Howick. While it has since been removed, the building was originally built with a turett from where the church’s vicar would watch over his congregation.

During the mid-1900’s, the villa was moved from its first site to another site on the same road, starting its second life as the Howick Medical Rooms.

In 1993 we, your hosts Ben and Helen Crowe purchased the villa and transported it to its current location. We saw through its many years of wear and tear and gave the villa its third lease on life on our 10-acre Kiwifruit orchard, becoming a home for our young family.

Ten years later, we added an extension to the north-west side of the house, which now serves as our Bed & Breakfast wing.

Fast forward to present day and The Crowe's Nest was born. Our home has lived many lives, and we love the fact that we get to share its rich history with our guests, sharing stories and creating new memories for everyone that visits.
